Revenue seize 2.4 million cigarettes in Wexford
Yesterday, (19/03/2024), as part of an intelligence-led operation, Revenue Officers seized 2.4 million cigarettes in Wexford. The cigarettes, branded ‘Richmond’, have a retail value of approximately €2,010,000, representing a potential loss to the exchequer of more than €1,582,000.
This seizure was made as a result of a joint operation conducted by Revenue’s Customs Service and An Garda Síochána.
A man in his 40s was arrested and subsequently charged, before being detained overnight at a Garda station in Wexford. He is due before the courts this morning.
Investigations are ongoing.
