Revenue seizes cigarettes, tobacco and a car in Dublin city
Revenue Officers seized 2,300 cigarettes, 2.9 kg of tobacco and a car in the Meath Street area of Dublin this morning (05/02/2015).
The cigarettes branded "MG" and "Marlboro Gold" were seized along with and 2.9 kg of "Flandria" and "Samson" tobacco when officers searched the car in the South inner city as part of an intelligence led enforcement operation targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes and tobacco. The car was seized because it was being used to transport the contraband cigarettes and tobacco.
The combined value of the seized tobacco product is in excess of €5,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €3,000.
Investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.
