Revenue seizes 2 million cigarettes at Dublin Port

Revenue officers seized more than 2 million cigarettes with an approximate retail value of €1.1m* at Dublin Port yesterday afternoon (09/02/2016).

The smuggled cigarettes, branded 'JIM' had been described on the manifest as 'wood pellets'. The contraband was uncovered when Revenue officers, acting on intelligence, identified and examined a shipping container that had arrived into Dublin Port from Vietnam via Rotterdam.

Revenue officers carried out a follow up search under warrant of a business premises in Co. Cork.

Investigations are continuing with a view to prosecution..
