39,800 cigarettes and a car seized in Dublin 15
Today (13/06/2016), Revenue officers seized more than 39,800 cigarettes following the search of a car, and the subsequent search of premises under warrant, in the Dublin 15 area. The cigarettes, along with the car in which they were transported, were seized in an intelligence led operation targeting the illegal importation and distribution of contraband cigarettes within the Dublin region.
The combined retail value of the cigarettes, branded "Marlboro", is €20,895, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €16,656.
Two men were interviewed and investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.
