Revenue seizes cigarettes worth €14,500 in Dublin Airport

Yesterday (12/07/16), Revenue officers at Dublin Airport seized more than 27,000 cigarettes when two Moldovan nationals, who had arrived on a flight from Istanbul, were stopped and searched following routine profiling. The cigarettes were found in the checked in baggage of the male and female, both aged in their 30s. The two were arrested and brought before Judge Lindsay in the Dublin District Court this morning (13/07/2016). They were remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison until Monday next (18/07/2016), when they will be brought back before the court.

The cigarettes, branded 'Marlboro Gold', have a retail value in excess of €14,500, representing a loss to the Exchequer of approximately €11,600.
