Revenue officers discover an alcohol still in Cavan

In the course of a recent intelligence led operation, Revenue officers seized almost 300,000 assorted cigarettes, 4.4 kg tobacco, 191 litres of wine, 68 litres counterfeit alcohol, and a partially assembled alcohol still, in Belturbet, Co. Cavan.

The discovery was made in a joint operation with An Garda Síochána at the end of last month, and the seized contraband had a retail value in excess of €160,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €127,000.

Investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.
