Revenue seizes cigarettes, tobacco, vodka and a car in Dublin
Today (16/08/2016), Revenue officers seized contraband cigarettes, tobacco, vodka suspected to be counterfeit and a car, following the search of a number of premises under warrant in the Dublin area. The searches were part of an intelligence led operation targeting the illegal sale and distribution of contraband tobacco products in Dublin. Revenue officers were assisted by members of An Garda Síochána.
A total of 23,420 contraband cigarettes were seized and brands included, 'Mayfair', 'Dorchester', 'Marlboro Gold', 'MG', 'Winston', 'Route 66', 'Jim' & '821'. 6.6kgs of illegal tobacco brands 'Eastenders', 'Samson', 'Amber Leaf' and 'Flandria' was seized, along with 68 bottles of vodka suspected to be counterfeit. The combined retail value for the goods seized was over €18,000 representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €14,000.
Investigations are continuing with a view to prosecution.
