Revenue seizes cigarettes worth €12,000 and a car in Dublin

Today (17/05/2016), following searches under warrant of an apartment in Finglas and retail premises in Dublin City Centre, Revenue officers seized more than 29,000 cigarettes and the car in which the contraband was transported. The combined retail value of the cigarettes, branded "Marlboro" and "Double Happiness", is €15,330, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €12,200.

Officers were assisted by members of An Garda Síochána who arrested a man in his 30s at the scene when a quantity of controlled drugs valued at over €8,000 was also discovered.

These searches were part of an intelligence led operation targeting the illegal importation and distribution of contraband cigarettes within the Dublin region.

Investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.
