Revenue seizes tobacco worth €7,100 at Portlaoise Mail Centre

Yesterday (17/02/2016), Revenue officers seized 15kgs of tobacco product at Portlaoise Mail Centre.  The tobacco was discovered, following routine profiling, when Revenue's sniffer dog, 'Max', gave a positive reaction to a parcel that had been consigned from an address in Spain to locations in Northern Ireland and Co. Louth.

The contraband tobacco, branded 'Amber Leaf', had a value in excess of €7,100, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €5,700.

Investigations are on-going.

These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing enforcement operations targeting the illegal importation, supply and sale of tobacco products.  If you have any information about the smuggling or sale of illegal cigarettes or tobacco, contact Revenue confidentially on free phone number 1800 295 295.
