Revenue seizes cannabis and cigarettes worth over €1 million in Dublin
Today (27/10/16), as part of an intelligence led operation, targeting the illegal importation, sale and supply of drugs, Revenue’s Customs Officers, with the assistance of detector dog Meg, seized over €1 million worth of herbal cannabis at a warehouse in South County Dublin.
This brings the total value of drugs seized by Revenue to over €10 million in the last fortnight.
On Tuesday (25/10/16), in a separate operation, Revenue’s Customs Officers seized 11,000 cigarettes and over 12kg tobacco following the search of a house in Rush, Co. Dublin. The cigarettes, branded "Rothmans", "L&M" and "Bond", and tobacco, branded "West", "Marlboro", "Pall Mall" and "Marlboro Gold", originated in Hungary and have a retail value in excess of €11,400, representing a potential loss to the exchequer of almost €10,000. A Hungarian man in his 30s was interviewed.
In both cases, investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.
