Revenue seizes over 2 tonnes of tobacco at Rosslare Europort

Yesterday morning (5/6/2017) Revenue Officers at Rosslare Europort seized over 2 tonnes of tobacco when they stopped and searched a Polish-registered truck as it arrived in Rosslare from Cherbourg in France.

The truck, which was said to contain plastic, was stopped and searched in a routine operation with the assistance of Detector Dog Alfie. The driver, a man in his forties, was questioned the truck was seized, along with the illegal tobacco.

Investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.

The contraband tobacco has a retail value of more than €1 million, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €800,000. The seizure is part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products in the shadow economy.
