Revenue seizes alcohol and tobacco at Dublin port
In the early hours of Saturday (13/05/2017), Revenue officers at Dublin Port seized 355 litres of alcohol (wine and beer) and 3,200 cigarettes branded ‘Winston’, ‘Kent’ and ‘Pall Mall’.
The contraband was found in a routine check of a van that had arrived in Dublin Port just before midnight on Friday (12/05/2017), having travelled from Romania via Holyhead. The male driver and his two passengers, all Romanian nationals in their thirties, were questioned and investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.
The smuggled goods have a retail value of over €3,800 and represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €2,800.
These seizures are part of Revenue's on going operations targeting the shadow economy. If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding the smuggling or sale of illegal alcohol, or tobacco products, they can contact Revenue in confidence on free phone number 1800 295 295.
