Revenue seizes 9,000 cigarettes, smuggler is fined €3,000
Today (27/06/17), in Dublin District Court, a 38 year old Latvian man who appeared before Judge Fiona Lydon was fined €3,000 on conviction for cigarette smuggling.
When the man arrived in Dublin Airport last Wednesday (21/06/2017), he was stopped and searched by Revenue officers who seized 9,000 cigarettes, branded ‘Marlboro Gold’. The smuggled cigarettes have a retail value of approximately €5,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €4,000.
