Revenue seize almost 700 litres of wine at Rosslare Europort
Today (07/09/2018), as a result of routine profiling, Revenue officers seized almost 700 litres of wine in two separate operations at Rosslare Europort. Officers seized over 600 litres of wine when they stopped and searched a car that had disembarked a ferry from Roscoff, France. An Irish man in his 60’s was questioned.
Separately, officers seized 90 litres of wine when they stopped and searched a car that had disembarked from the same ferry. A man in his 50’s was questioned. The seizures have a combined retail value of approximately €10,000 and a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €5,000.
Investigations in relation to both seizures are on going.
These seizures are part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal alcohol in the shadow economy. Since the start of 2018, over 59,000 litres of smuggled alcohol have been seized by Revenue officers in Rosslare Europort.
