Revenue seizes 15kg of tobacco and 750 litres of Sangria in Rosslare Europort

Today (11/09/2018), as a result of routine profiling, Revenue officers in Rosslare Europort seized over 15kgs of loose tobacco when they stopped and searched a car disembarking a ferry arriving from France. The smuggled tobacco, which originated in Poland, has a retail value of approximately €7,600 with an estimated loss to the exchequer of over €6,100. A Polish man in his 50’s has been questioned and investigations are ongoing.

Separately, yesterday (10/09/2018) and also as a result of routine profiling, Revenue officers in Rosslare Europort seized 750 litres of Sangria with a retail value of approximately €10,400 and a loss to the exchequer of over €5,000.

Officers discovered the Sangria when they stopped and searched a truck which had originated in Spain and arrived on a ferry from France. The Sangria was in boxes which were labelled and manifested as ‘orange juice’. Investigations are ongoing.

These seizures are part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products and illegal alcohol in the shadow economy.
