Revenue seizes over €177,000 cash in Dublin Airport

On Monday (08/07/2019) at Dublin District Court, Revenue Officers from Dublin Airport were granted a three month cash detention order by Judge Patricia Harney.

This followed the seizure of €177,300 last Saturday (06/07/2019) when, following routine profiling, Revenue Officers stopped and searched a man in his forties travelling to Dusseldorf, Germany.

The cash was found hidden in the hand luggage of the South African national, as well as on his person. Revenue officers seized the cash suspecting it to be the proceeds of, or intended for use in, criminal activity.

Investigations are ongoing.

This routine operation is part of Revenue's ongoing work targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity. If businesses, or members of the public have any information, they can contact Revenue in confidence on Confidential Phone Number 1800 295 295.
