Revenue seize cigarettes in Cavan and Dublin Airport

Yesterday, (13/04/2021), as a result of an intelligence led operation and with the assistance of detector dog Bill, Revenue officers seized 76,000 cigarettes following  a search, under warrant, of a retail premises in Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan. The unstamped cigarettes, branded ‘NZ Gold’ and ‘Rothmans’, have an estimated retail value of €54,000 representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €42,560.

A Bulgarian man and woman both in their thirties were questioned.  

Separately, as a result of routine operations over the course of 12 and 13 April 2021, Revenue officers seized 50,400 cigarettes at Dublin Airport. The illegal cigarettes were discovered in packages consigned from Italy and have an estimated retail value of €35,300, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €28,000.

Investigations into these seizures are ongoing.
