Revenue seize cigarettes in Dublin and alcohol at Rosslare Europort

Yesterday (19 October 2022), as a result of an intelligence led operation, Revenue officers seized over 81,000 cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €64,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €50,000.

The illegal cigarettes, branded ‘Marlboro Gold’ and ‘L&M’, were discovered in two air cargo consignments declared as ‘air beds’, that had arrived at Dublin Airport from Germany and in a vehicle that was subsequently searched in North County Dublin.

A man in his 30s was questioned.

Separately, last Friday (14 October 2022), as a result of routine profiling, Revenue officers seized approximately 23,600 litres of beer at Rosslare Europort following the search of an unaccompanied trailer that had arrived on a ferry from Dunkirk, France.

The smuggled alcohol had an estimated retail value of more than €94,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €44,000.

Investigations into these seizures are ongoing.
