Revenue seize herbal cannabis worth over €1 million at Dublin Airport

Yesterday (17/10/2023), as part of two separate intelligence-led operations and with the assistance of detector dog Maggie, Revenue officers seized approximately 51 kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of over €1 million at Dublin Airport.

The illicit drugs were discovered when Revenue officers stopped and searched the baggage of passengers who had disembarked flights from John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport in the USA.

Three men in their 20s were arrested by An Garda Síochána and detained at a Dublin Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. All three have since been charged in connection with the case and are now before the courts.

Investigations are ongoing.

These seizures are part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs. If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295.
