Revenue seize herbal cannabis worth €380,000 at Dublin and Shannon airports
On Tuesday (16/01/2024), as a result of risk profiling, Revenue Officers at Dublin Airport seized 16.6 kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of approximately €330,000. The illicit drugs were discovered when Revenue officers stopped and searched the baggage of a passenger who had travelled from Spain. A woman in her 20s was arrested by An Garda Síochána and has since appeared before the courts.
Separately on Tuesday, and also as a result of risk profiling, Revenue Officers at Shannon Airport seized 2.5 kgs of herbal cannabis. The illicit drugs, with an estimated value of €50,000, were discovered in parcels originating from the USA and were destined for an address in Tipperary. Investigations in respect of both seizures are ongoing.
These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs. If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding drug smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295.
