Revenue seize cigarettes and tobacco worth almost €163,000 at Dublin Port
Yesterday (23/04/2024), as a result of risk profiling and with the assistance of detector dog Milo, Revenue officers seized 137,500 cigarettes and 58 kgs of rolling tobacco with an estimated value of almost €163,000 at Dublin Port.
The contraband was discovered in a consignment which had arrived from Cyprus via the Netherlands.
The smuggled cigarettes, branded ‘Benson & Hedges Gold’, have an estimated value of over €115,000 and represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €90,600 whilst the rolling tobacco, branded ‘Amber Leaf’, has an estimated value of over €47,800 and represents a potential loss to the Exchequer of more than €35,900.
Investigations are ongoing.
