Revenue seize contraband worth over €826,000 at Dublin Port
Over the course of the week commencing 17/06/2024, Revenue officers seized contraband worth approximately €826,600 during the course of numerous operations at Dublin Port.
Revenue officers made the following discoveries, as a result of risk profiling:
- 210 kgs of tobacco, branded ‘Virginia', with an estimated value of €173,100, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €130,000,
- 40,000 cigarettes, branded ‘John Player’, with an estimated value of €33,500, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €26,300
- and
- 31 kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €620,000.
The illicit tobacco and cigarettes were seized with the assistance of detector dog Waffle. The discovery was made in a consignment of jigsaw puzzles which had originated from Poland and which was intended for an address in Donegal.
The herbal cannabis was seized with the assistance of detector dog Milo. The detections were made in parcels originating from Spain and which were intended for an address in Carlow.
Investigations into all of these seizures are ongoing.
