Revenue seized contraband worth over €172,000 in Dublin and Rosslare

Over the course of recent days, Revenue officers seized contraband with an estimated value of over €172,000 in various operations in Dublin and Rosslare Europort.

The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and included the following:

  • 4.6 kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of €91,800
  • almost 1kg of cocaine, with an estimated value of €67,200
  • various other illicit drugs, with an estimated value of almost €4,300
  • and
  • 46 counterfeit items, with an estimated value of over €8,400.

The cocaine was discovered when Revenue officers stopped and searched the baggage of a passenger, who had disembarked a flight from Paris, France, in Dublin Airport. A man in his 30s was arrested by An Garda Síochána and has since appeared before the courts.

The herbal cannabis and various illicit drugs were discovered when Revenue officers, with the assistance of detector dogs Sam, Ciara and Enzo, searched parcels at a premises in Dublin. The parcels had originated in the United Kingdom, Thailand, United States, Canada and India, and were destined for various addresses nationwide.

The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.

In addition to the above, a small amount of alcohol, with a retail value of €310 and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €210 was seized in Rosslare Europort.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
