What is the Automated Export System (AES)?
Impact on trade
If you export European Union (EU) goods to non-EU countries and used Automated Entry Processing (AEP) for your export declarations, you will notice the following significant changes in the Automated Export System (AES):
- A new data set for the export declaration, as specified under the Union Customs Code. While most of the information needed to complete your export declaration is the same as the data used in AEP, there are some new data elements. Details are in Annex B of the EU Customs Data Model 6.2. The export declaration looks different with ‘Data fields’ and SAD ‘boxes’ now replaced by ‘data elements’.
- AES allows you to lodge your export declarations up to 30 days before you present your goods to Customs. If you lodge your export declaration pre-presentation, you will have to submit a presentation notification (C2) to Customs when your goods are ready to export.
- There are changes to the process flow to confirm the exit of goods from the EU. Therefore, you need to submit some new messages. Please see below for further information.
The Automated Export System (AES) presentation provides useful information about how AES affects your business.
