Customs Roll-on Roll-off service (RoRo service)
Examples of ferry consignments that need a PBN
Note
A Pre-Boarding notification (PBN) is required for all vehicles booked in as freight on a RoRo ferry. The PBN data is included in the NIMS manifest submitted to Revenue by the ferry operator.
If you are travelling using the ferry passenger channel, a PBN will not be required. However, you must make a declaration to Customs if you are carrying goods in excess of your personal allowances, or prohibited or restricted goods. You can make your declaration by calling to Customs at the port. Further information is available in Travelling from outside of the EU.
Departing the Customs control area without customs clearance is a serious offence.
