Since 1 January 2019, new rules and definitions apply to certain types of vouchers issued from that date. These rules affect the taxing point and affect how Value-Added Tax (VAT) can be deducted by certain types of traders.

The new rules introduced new categories of vouchers called single-purpose vouchers (SPV) and multi-purpose vouchers (MPV). For detailed information on the VAT treatment of SPVs and MPVs, please see further guidance.

For information on the VAT treatment of vouchers that do not fall within the new rules for vouchers, please see further guidance.
