Irish whiskey and Irish poteen Geographical Indications (GI) Verification Scheme
What if my premises is not verified?
If the facility is not operating in line with the Technical File, Revenue will refuse or withdraw verification. Once Revenue notifies you of this, you will have 14 days to petition Revenue in relation to the decision. Revenue will then either confirm or change the initial decision.
If Revenue refuses or withdraws verification, you will have to remedy the issue and re-apply to Revenue to be verified. The application will be successful once you can demonstrate that your production processes and systems satisfy the Geographical Indications (GI) requirements. Revenue must also verify your premises.
When notified by Revenue either the:
- Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI)
- Health Service Executive (HSE)
- or
- Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM)
will determine what appropriate enforcement action to take. The type of enforcement action will depend on the specific case.
