Registering for the Plastic Bag Levy
Retailers who supply plastic bags to customers must register for the Plastic Bag Levy.
You can register for the Plastic Bag Levy through eRegistration.
The Regulations, referenced on the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment website, exclude certain types of plastic bags from the levy. These include:
- re-usable shopping bags sold for 70 cent or more
- bags used solely to contain fresh meat, fish, ice or poultry (whether packaged or otherwise)
- bags used solely to contain loose fruit and vegetables and other foods that are not otherwise packaged.
The Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment determine the exemptions.
