Revenue seize contraband worth €722,000 in Dublin and the Midlands
Over the course of the past week (week commencing 28/10/2024), Revenue officers made the following discoveries, as a result of risk profiling, during the course of numerous operations in Dublin and the Midlands:
- 17.5 kgs of herbal cannabis and almost 6 kgs of cannabis edibles, with a combined estimated value of over €357,000,
- 4.7 kgs of cocaine, with an estimated value of €335,000,
- various quantities of other illicit drugs, with a total estimated value of €1,800
- and
- 5 bullets and 6 bottles of wine.
The cocaine was discovered within baggage when Revenue officers stopped and searched a passenger who had arrived on a flight from Amsterdam, originating in Brazil. Two men in their 30s and 40s were arrested and subsequently charged by An Garda Síochána in relation to this seizure. Both individuals appeared before the courts this morning.
The other contraband was discovered, with the assistance of detector dogs Sam and Grace, during the examination of parcels at premises in Dublin and the Midlands. The parcels originated in the USA, the United Kingdom, Canada, Thailand, India and Spain and were intended for addresses nationwide.
Revenue officers also seized a quantity of retail goods, with an estimated value of €28,200, due to infringements of Intellectual Property Rights.
