Revenue seize contraband worth almost €260,000 in Dublin and Rosslare
Over the course of last week, week commencing 30 December 2024, Revenue officers seized contraband, with an estimated value of €260,000, in various operations in Dublin and Rosslare.
The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and included the following:
- 9.1kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of €183,000,
- various other illicit drugs, with an estimated value of €2,800,
- 1,380 cigarettes, with an estimated value of €1,250 and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €600,
- 6.1kg of tobacco, with an estimated value of €5,400 and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €4,100, and
- 168 items of counterfeit goods, with an estimated value of €67,000.
The illicit drugs were discovered, with the assistance of detector dogs Ciara and Enzo, by Revenue officers examining parcels at a premises in Dublin. The parcels had originated in the UK, Spain, India and Thailand, and were destined for addresses in nationwide.
The cigarettes and tobacco were seized when Revenue officers stopped and search passengers passing through Rosslare Europort.
The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.
Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
