Revenue seized contraband worth almost €95,000 in Dublin, the Midlands and Rosslare

Over the course of last week, commencing 20 January 2025, Revenue officers seized contraband with an estimated value of almost €94,000 in Dublin, the Midlands and Rosslare Europort.

The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and included the following:

  • 3.8 kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of over almost €76,700
  • assorted tablets with an estimated value of €4,700,
  • various illicit drugs with an estimated value of over €2,220
  • and
  • 20 counterfeit items with an estimated value of €5,220.

The herbal cannabis, assorted tables and other illicit drugs were discovered, with the assistance of detector dog Sam, when Revenue officers were examining parcels in Dublin and the Midlands. The illicit drugs were discovered in parcels that originated in Thailand, USA, UK, Canada, and India, France and Spain. The parcels were destined for various addresses nationwide.

The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights. Over 64 litres of alcohol, with a retail value of €1,480 and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €1,100, were also seized during the course of various operations in the Midlands and at Rosslare Europort. In addition, 4,000 cigarettes and a small amount of tobacco, with a combined retail value of €3,860 and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €2,740, were also seized.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
