Revenue seized contraband worth over €765,000 in Dublin, the Midlands, South-East and Rosslare

Over the week ending 02/03/2025, Revenue officers seized contraband with an estimated value of €765,000 in various operations in Dublin, the Midlands, Rosslare Europort and in the South-East.

The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence led operations, and included the following:

  • 32.4kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of almost €650,000
  • Various other illicit drugs, with an estimated value of over €48,000
  • 1,516 illicit tablets worth almost €2,400
  • 600 cigarettes and almost 12kg of tobacco products with an estimated market value of over €11,000 and estimated loss to the exchequer of €8,435
  • and
  • 166 counterfeit items, with an estimated value of over €53,600.

The herbal cannabis and illicit drugs, some of which were discovered with the assistance of detector dogs Ciara, Sam, Grace, and Enzo, were discovered whilst Revenue officers were examining parcels at premises in Dublin and the Midlands. The parcels containing drugs originated from the Czech Republic, France, Poland, The Netherlands, The United Kingdom, Thailand, Spain and India, and were destined for addresses Austria, Croatia, France, Romania and nationwide.

The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.

In addition to the above, almost 91 litres of alcohol, with a retail value of over €2600 and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €1250, were seized in Rosslare Europort and the Midlands. Nine weapons were also seized in the Midlands.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
