Revenue seize contraband worth over €572,000

Over the week commencing 14/04/2025, Revenue officers seized contraband with an estimated value of more than €572,000 in various operations in Dublin, the Midlands and Rosslare Europort.

The detections were made as a result of risk profiling, and included:

  • approximately 16.5 kgs of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of €329,360
  • 170kg of edibles, with an estimated value of over €170,000
  • 9,920 Tapentadol, Diazepam, Alprazolam and Zopiclone tablets, with an estimated value of €19,840
  • various quantities of other illicit drugs, with a combined value of €11,200
  • 267 counterfeit goods of assorted brands, with an estimated value of over €30,900
  • cigarettes and tobacco products, with an estimated value of almost €9,680, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €6,067.

The illegal drugs were discovered, with the assistance of detector dogs Sam, Enzo and Ciara, in parcels that originated in the USA, the United Kingdom, India, Spain, Italy, France, Canada and the Netherlands. The parcels were destined for various addresses nationwide.

Almost 40 litres of alcohol, with an estimated value of €1,143 representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €525, was also discovered in searches in the Midlands and Rosslare. In addition, 54 weapons were seized in parcels searched in mail centres.

The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
