What is the Automated Import System (AIS)?

Overview

Revenue implemented a new national import system on Monday, 23 November 2020 at 9:00am. This new Automated Import System (AIS) has been introduced to comply with the provisions of the Union Customs Code (UCC). AIS ensures that businesses can import goods legally from outside the EU using the most efficient process possible.

This is the first of a suite of new systems we are introducing as part of the IT work programme.

AIS does the following:

  • replaces the existing Automated Entry Processing (AEP)  and eManifest systems for imports
  • introduces changes to the import procedure impacting on those involved in the import supply chain
  • significantly changes the structure and content of the import declaration.

Note

From 9:00am on Monday 23 November 2020, AIS will be implemented in accordance with eCustoms Notification 29/2020. You will find further information about how to manage your transition to using AIS in eCustoms Notification 015/2020.
