What is the Automated Import System (AIS)?

What has changed under AIS?

The Union Customs Code (UCC) introduced the following changes to existing customs procedures:

  • The import Single Administrative Document (SAD) processed within the AEP system has been replaced by new AIS declaration types.
  • The import eManifest, which was submitted by express, air and sea carriers, has been replaced by new AIS declarations.
  • The structure and content of electronic import declarations has changed to reflect the European Union Customs Data Model (EUCDM). AIS is based primarily on Version 5.1 of EUCDM. The system will be updated on an ongoing basis to ensure maximum alignment as the EUCDM itself continues to be developed and refined.
