How will the Automated Import System (AIS) impact your business?
Importers
You are legally obliged, as an importer of goods from outside the European Union (EU), to lodge a customs import declaration in the AIS.
You may use
- your own internally developed and supported customs software
- or
- software provided by an external systems provider.
In all cases, you should ensure that:
- the customs software you are using can interface with the AIS
- and
- your staff are familiar with the content and structure of declarations and message types.
If you employ a customs agent to manage your customs import formalities, you should ensure that the software your agent uses can interface with the AIS. If a customs agent is acting on your behalf, you must ensure that the information you provide to your agent is accurate and correct.
