Revenue seized contraband worth over €1.4 million in Dublin, the Midlands and Rosslare

Over the week commencing 03/03/2025, Revenue officers seized contraband with an estimated value of over €1.4 million in various operations in Dublin, the Midlands, and Rosslare Europort. The detections were made as a result of risk profiling and intelligence led operations, and included the:

  • almost 65kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of almost €1,285,000
  • 1.5kg of cannabis resin with an estimated value of over €9,000
  • various other illicit drugs with an estimated value of almost €4,000
  • tobacco products with an estimated value of €11,000
  • and
  • 188 counterfeit items, with an estimated value of over €92,000.

Fifty five kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €1,100,000 were seized as part of an intelligence led operation in Dublin Airport when Revenue officers searched a freight consignment declared as a jacuzzi hot tub which had originated from Thailand. The consigned was destined for an address in Northern Ireland.

The remaining herbal cannabis, cannabis resin and other illicit drugs were discovered whilst Revenue officers were examining parcels at premises in Dublin and the Midlands. The parcels originated in the USA, the UK, India, Canada, France, Slovenia, Poland and the Netherlands, and were destined for addresses in France and nationwide.

11,000 cigarettes with a value of €9,900 and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €7,850, and 1.4kg of rolling tobacco with a value of €1,100 and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of €950, were seized in separate operations in Kilkenny and the Midlands.

The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the rights holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.

In addition to the above, over 100 litres of alcohol with a retail value of over €2,275 and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer €1,045, were seized in Rosslare Europort and the Midlands.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
