What if you do not hold an Irish Personal Public Service Number (PPSN)

Your PPSN is a unique reference number that is needed for all dealings with public service agencies, including Revenue.

If you are present in Ireland you can attend the PPSN Registration Centre for the county you are living in. You can book an appointment online at www.myWelfare.ie

If you are non-resident in Ireland you can contact the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection's (DEASP) Client Identity Services (CIS). The necessary forms to request a new PPSN will be issued to you.

Client Identity Services will contact you by letter at the address given on the application form.

When you receive the PPSN from DEASP, you must advise LPT Branch of same. The PPSN must be activated as a Tax Reference Number by Revenue before it can be used for LPT purposes.

The PPSN can be used for:

  • accessing your LPT records at LPT online to file a return and make payments
  • Stamp Duty purposes if you sell or transfer your property.
